Anaga
The Anaga Massif is a rural environment, declared a Biosphere Reserve, far from the main population centres of Tenerife and a highly appreciated area in this land. The two locations of the festival are sheltered by this environment.
Taganana
Taganana is a strategic point of passage for visitors due to the marvellous environment that surrounds it, full of infinite rocks (Roque de las Ánimas, Roque Amogoje, among others) and for its biodiversity, which includes the most representative fauna and flora of the Canary Islands.
San Andrés
San Andrés is the most populated locality in the district of Anaga, located on the southern slopes of the massif; together with Taganana, it is one of the oldest population centres in Tenerife. It is located in the Anaga Rural Park, in the Biosphere Reserve of the Anaga Massif. Part of San Andrés is a Special Area of Conservation, ZEC (Sebadal de San Andrés).
Contributing without disturbing
That's why we ask that if you come to the Taganana Festival you get information about the environment and the specific protections it requires. In this video we give you some recommendations and we invite you to visit the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve website to learn more about the flora and fauna of the area and why it is important to protect it.
Just a few minutes by road from the capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, you will find the Anaga Rural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, rich in endemic flora and fauna of the Canary Islands. Famous are the beaches that bathe this coast of the island, endless coves of black volcanic sand that invite you to take a refreshing swim, one of the wonders that the Canary Islands offer us.
The Anaga Rural Park occupies a large part of the mountainous massif located in the extreme north-east of the island of Tenerife, which extends over three of the municipalities that make up Tenerife: La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Tegueste. It is one of the main recreational areas of the municipality and is also a major tourist attraction.
The Taganana Festival arose as a result of an unquestionable need to bring culture and activities to this area. This idea has been put into action by cultural managers from Tenerife, people who know this land well, who enjoy it, respect it and share our lives in it. For this reason, creating this festival is a responsibility that obliges us to develop it every year in a sustainable way, with great care to contribute, without disturbing the environment that surrounds us.
Protecting the laurel forest, this ancient forest that has survived for 40 million years, leads us to invite the visitor to understand what he has in front of his eyes. In the same way, we call on everyone to pay special attention to the fauna, to leave their mobile phone in their pocket (or at home) and to look up at the sky to find the Cory's shearwater, the kestrel, the owl or the common and turquoise pigeons, because this is a Special Protection Area for Birds.
Under the sea, we also have the pleasure of seeing species such as the mackerel, the hake, the old canary or the eel. And that's not all, if you pay attention to the surroundings you will find many more surprises to marvel at.
Don't forget that within the Park there are several areas of special protection, access to which is regulated. You can consult them through the Environment Department of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, by calling 922843097 or by email coordinacionmam@tenerife.es

Sustainable Development Goals
Taganana Festival shares and aligns itself with the Sustainable Development Goals that on 25 September 2015 were adopted by world leaders to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda.
Disseminate this commitment and contribute everything necessary to ensure that cultural development is in line with them. This is achieved through specific actions that, from this event, translate into disseminating these SDGs, applying the sustainability measures that are within our reach and making available to the team, the artists and the public, the necessary information to evolve towards a sustainable future that is committed to the environment.
